Tips and Techniques: Wine Barrel Sign
I bought these wine barrel rings over five years ago to make a cool project with but I never did. I pulled them out from their storage, dusted them off and started thinking what I could do with them when I started this business and finally inspiration struck.
Materials Needed
Wine Barrel rings (these are not uniform. I bought mine off etsy but each was a different size and width)
6 inch x 1 inch x 8 ft boards (5.5 x .75 is actual size of boards)
Wood words (purchased mine from a hobby store) – I use Blessed and Family on mine
White paint
Dark Walnut Stain
Screws
Brad Nails
Brushes and rags for paint and stain
Sharpie and pencil
Sawtooth or other heavy duty hanger
Tools Needed
Brad Nail Gun
Drill and drill bit at size of screw used
Jig Saw
Steps
Use the rings to measure how much to cut the boards. Place the 6 inch board at the area it will be placed under the rings and draw with a pencil the edge along the circle where the boards will be.
Measure the angle of the wine barrel rings to know what angle to adjust the jig saw (the jig saw can cut the board at different angles).
Use the jigsaw to cut the boards remembering to adjust the angle based on each side of the wood as the wine barrel has a different angle on each side.
After the wood is cut, dry fit into the barrel and mark with sharpie on the sides of the wine barrel where you will drill the holes to attach the wood boards to the barrels. Mark two holes for each board on each side.
Take boards out and stain the boards the Dark Walnut Stain.
While stain is drying, drill into the edge of the wine barrels where you will place the boards.
After stain dries, drill the boards into the wine barrel rings.
If you haven’t already, paint your words white. Once this dries, brad nail them onto the front of the boards.
Put on backs on boards. This ensures the heavy piece will hang properly on wall and will not fall off.
